What is ESDM Therapy?

The Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) is an evidence-based therapy that supports young Autistic children (up to age 6) to develop foundational skills. The ESDM supports learning across all developmental domains, for example play, social skills, and personal independence, with an emphasis on social-emotional and communication skills.

Learning is embedded into everyday play and routines and is delivered in natural settings, such as the home, early education, and Kinder. By embedding learning opportunities into everyday routines, play and interactions, the ESDM promotes meaningful and lasting skill development.

ESDM for Parents

A key component of ESDM is family involvement. Parents and caregivers collaborate with their therapist to identify learning priorities and learn strategies to integrate therapeutic techniques into everyday routines. By working collaboratively with families, ESDM ensures that children’s learning is supported in meaningful, real-world contexts.

ESDM Therapists

ESDM therapy is delivered by highly trained professionals who specialise in early intervention. To truly be able to deliver the ESDM, therapists must be certified in the model and have expertise in supporting young children’s developmental needs.
